Taylor’s 20 Year Old Tawny Port is a richly aged, non‑vintage tawny from the Douro Valley in Portugal, blended from wines matured over two decades in oak casks (approx. 630‑litre barrels) in Taylor’s tranquil cellars (“lodges”) in Vila Nova de Gaia. It carries a 20.0% ABV and is bottled in a 75cl format.
Producer: Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman (commonly known as Taylor’s), one of the oldest and most respected Port houses (founded 1692), with deep tradition in ageing tawny Ports.
Ageing: Crafted from a blend of reserve Ports matured for ~20 years in seasoned oak casks. Over this time the wine gradually develops its tawny‑amber colour, complex aromatics, and mellow palate.
Blend & Grapes: Uses indigenous red grape varieties of the Douro (including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cão, Tinta Amarela).
Appearance:
Deep amber‑tawny colour with warm golden hues. The shade reflects its long oak cask ageing.
Nose (Aroma):
Opulent and voluptuous. Complex layers of dried fruits (raisins, figs, prunes), spicy notes, nuts (walnut, almond), honeyed toffee, orange blossom and fine oak. Subtle floral hints too.
Palate (Taste):
Rich, concentrated flavour with a silky smooth, lush texture.
Flavours mirror the nose: dried fruits, caramel/honey, toasted nuts, subtle spice; balanced sweetness with oak influence.
Finish:
Long, mellow, warm finish. Sweetness recedes gradually leaving lingering nutty and spicy notes. Clean and rounded without being cloying.
