Taylor’s Historic Collection Reserve Tawny Port is a limited‑edition, non‑vintage tawny from the renowned Port house Taylor’s (founded 1692), crafted to honour centuries of tradition. Bottled at 75cl with an alcohol content of 20% ABV, the wine is matured in seasoned oak casks drawn from aged tawny reserves in Vila Nova de Gaia. Its distinctive packaging is inspired by historic English glassware, adding collector appeal.
The bottle shape is a tribute to early‑18th‑century English “chestnut” or “flat chestnut” wine bottles (circa 1715‑1740), a style relatively rare in England but more common in continental Europe at that time. It features the “4XX” merchant’s mark, a design taken from an intact late‑17th‑century sealed bottle — the same mark used by Taylor’s to this day.
Appearance:
A core of deep brick red fading to russet tones on the rim.
Nose:
Beautifully mature and complex. Aromatic notes of plum, fig, sultana, overlaid with subtle marzipan and butterscotch. There are exotic hints: cigar box, cedarwood, leather.
Palate & Finish:
Round, smooth texture with well‑integrated, discreet tannins that impart a pleasing dryness and grip.
Rich flavours of fruit cake dominate, with plum character emerging on the long, warming finish.
Overall harmony and balance are hallmarks. Drawing intensity and finesse from ageing in oak.
